Recently, the Faculty of Law at Chiang Mai University has officially launched the “Fact to Action Pitching” project, initiated by Assistant Professor Dr. Chainarong Luengvilai, creating excitement among staff. The first round was held from July 9 to July 30, 2025, during which staff showed overwhelming interest by continuously submitting nearly 20 project proposals!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This initiative not only provides a platform for staff to showcase their abilities but also serves as a space for creating significant qualitative changes. It encourages everyone to use data as a foundation for driving new ideas (Data Driven) while fostering an atmosphere that embodies the organizational culture of “collaborating to develop work through innovation.” Staff who propose interesting projects will receive support to implement prototypes. Even if a project does not pass evaluation, they will receive guidance to resubmit and develop the perspective of “daring to fail” (Dare to Fail & Fail to Learn) for their future growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On July 17, 2025, the Faculty kicked off its first project, which is intriguing both in its approach and its outcomes for the faculty: the “Cost-Effective Printing Initiative: Assessing Ink Alternatives and Shared Printer Systems.” This project was presented by Mr. Ruangrit Janrawangyot and Ms. Benjaporn Chaimongkol from the Finance, Accounting, and Procurement Department, aiming to change printing behaviors and reduce the faculty’s budget burden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Surveys revealed that the faculty spends up to 435,786 baht annually on ink purchases and photocopy machine rentals, with genuine ink costing 335,245 baht and photocopy machine rentals at 72,000 baht. Furthermore, the use of photocopy machines has not fully utilized the free quotas available, leading to unnecessary budget waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This project presents two exciting cost-reduction strategies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Switching entirely to alternative ink, reducing expenses to approximately 312,000 baht per year (a 28% decrease or about 123,000 baht).
The main approach chosen by the faculty is to purchase alternative ink for faculty members while allowing staff to use shared photocopy machines instead of personal printers. This is expected to reduce expenses to about 140,000 baht per year (a decrease of 61.72% or savings of 295,000 baht).
The project began with testing alternative ink, involving 15 staff members from various departments, as well as studying successful examples from other faculties. The Finance, Accounting, and Procurement Department will serve as a pilot group for using shared photocopy machines to assess efficiency and print quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite potential cultural obstacles, the faculty is confident that this change is an important starting point. If successful, the faculty will propose driving this policy at a higher level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The “Cost-Effective Printing Initiative” has already received approval for implementation and emphasizes that it is a \u201czero-cost project,\u201d relying solely on the collaborative efforts of staff to make the most of available resources. This initiative sparks a culture of innovation within the organization, ready to transition towards sustainable development for the Faculty of Law, Chiang Mai University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
